Is High-end Foundation Worth It?

Is High-end Foundation Worth It?

Have you ever wondered if you are spending £33-£40 on a great formula or just paying for the brand name? A lot of the time high-end makeup comes in simple, expensive looking packaging and feels heavier to hold, this gives the product a more luxurious feel to it. High-end foundations are usually priced between £30 and £40 but can be more expensive depending on the brand, product description and popularity.

Now that we know a little bit more about high-end foundations, is it worth buying them? It depends. If you want full coverage but don't want to risk it going cakey once its on, high-end foundations would be a good option, but that doesn't mean all high-end foundations wont go cakey once on. Your skin plays a big role in how makeup sits on your skin. Having both dry or oily skin can cause foundation to go cakey on your face so using products like moisturisers that are specific to what you need them for would help to get the right balance in your skin.

Do NOT guess your foundation shade. If you are at a place with multiple makeup stalls (for example House of Fraser) and are thinking about buying a foundation from one of the brands, ask them if you are able to get the recommended foundation matched to your skin. Repeat this at various stalls, try them all out for a week or so to see if you like how it looks  and feels on your skin and if you find what you like then you can go back and buy it.

Now that we've talked about High-end foundation, lets talk about drugstore foundation. The problem with drugstore foundation is that there isn't really a way to test or know what it's going to be like before you buy it, yes some shops have little testers available but they don't always give a true representation of the product itself as the shops lighting could make it look a different shade and if any air has got to the tester that can effect how it would apply and sit on the skin.

If you have bought a drugstore foundation and it's the wrong shade, you can buy lightning and darkening drops which you just add to your foundation and will help match out the foundation a bit to your right shade. Good ones are The Body Shop's shade adjusting drops sold for £10 each. (this method would work for High-end foundation too!)

In the end, if you want to be on the safe side when it comes to knowing what the product is like before you buy it then High-end foundation may be the way for you as long as you are willing to pay slightly more for it and if you don't mind the risk of not knowing what the products going to be like or just don't want to spend as much then sticking to drugstore foundation is probably best for you.
